Christ and GIGO
(garbage in, garbage out)
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it….A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say and do flows from what is in your heart. (Proverbs 4:23; Luke 6:45)
In computer science we learned the concept of GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). Flawed or nonsense data produces flawed or nonsense output or “garbage”. Using wrong numbers or corrupt information never brings right answers. The same concept is true of athletes and the rest of us regarding the food we eat. Junk food digested in us will lead to poor performance in sports, thinking, and working.
The concept of GIGO is even more powerful and telling in our spiritual life. If we allow garbage in our hearts and minds, out will come anger, hate, grudge holding, sexual immorality, stealing, lying, gossiping, backbiting, bragging, discontentment, envy, jealousy, and more bad character and conduct. If God dwells in our hearts, and we live by His word, seek His help in prayer, and are sharpened by Christ-like people, our attitudes and actions will show the fruit of the Holy Spirit—love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal 5:22,23).
With your prayers and support, I am able to come alongside people in teaching, pastoral counseling, and prison ministry to help them input God-honoring influences so that their lives can shine for Christ, little by little, more and more, in this crooked and depraved generation. Thank you TONS!
